Journalist shares 5 favourite stories of 2022

As a tribute to her fantastic first year at the Berea Mail, here is a list of local journalist Nia Louw's 5 favourite stories this year.

I STARTED working at the Berea Mail in February of 2022, and since my start at the community newspaper, I have met dozens of local residents who are taking major steps towards making their community a better place, local children who are excelling amazingly and putting their community on the map, charities that are making people’s lives better one day at a time, couples who have spent half their lives together and are still madly in love, and much, much more.

The main ingredient in making the Berea Mail the paper it is are the people who live in the communities we cover and how their colourful stories and incredible achievements and initiatives fill our pages week after week. My favourite part of being a journalist at the Berea Mail is the people that make up the communities we cover. Stepping into 2023, I would like to continue seeing new faces and hearing more stories, and as a tribute to my fantastic first year at the Berea Mail, here is a list of five of my favourite stories this year.

Nia Louw

I am one of two journalists working on the Berea Mail Newspaper. We produce stories weekly for both print and online. I am dedicated to producing content that is current and engaging to our audiences, and with the help of our digital co-ordinator, Khurshid Guffar, and our editor, Corrinne Louw, we focus on producing content that keeps up with online trends and audience preferences. The Berea Mail website showcases a wide array of articles that fall under various categories, from entertainment, lifestyle, schools and food to crime, municipality-related stories and other hard news. I have been with the Berea Mail Newspaper for more than two years, and I am committed to producing accurate and newsworthy content. I have a good rapport with the local community and enjoy covering community-centred stories and sharing the stories of our local residents.
