Local residents rave about Rachel Finlayson Pool’s renovations
Local residents have their say about the newly renovated Rachel Finlayson Pool in North Beach.
FOR years the Rachel Finlayson Pool on Durban’s beachfront has lain waste with repair work pending. Over the festive period, the eThekwini Municipality finally reopened the pool, just in time for the influx of tourists who visited Durban. This was a welcome sight to local residents and out-of-town visitors alike.
This week, Berea Mail journalist Nia Louw visited the pool and spoke to a few local residents to find out how they are enjoying the renovated Rachel Finlayson pool and its facilities in North Beach.

“It’s about time the pool reopened! I walk past the pool nearly every day, and I’ve been waiting and waiting for years now. I’m very glad the pool is open at last. I have five children, and when they were all toddlers, I brought them all here. I used to swim myself, and now that the pool is open, I will come and have a swim. The facilities look very nice – the pools, the dressing rooms and the showers – everything is very clean. I’m most happy about the pool

“I’m very excited that the pool is open again because we were walking past the pool for so long and looking at it with no water. I just used to think it was so big that if there was water inside the pool, we could swim and have a great time. It looks beautiful now, and it’s so welcoming. It is very clean, and the water is very nice. Overall, I’m so happy to be here.”

“I’ve been to Rachel Finlayson before it was closed, and now that it’s back open, I’m really happy, and today, I’m here spending a day with my grandmother, and I’m very excited. It’s an amazing place to spend a day with family and friends.”
