R80k in prizes shared as TAFTA hosts Golden Ticket Lottery

The bonus grand prize winner took home a cheque for R50 000.

A WHOPPING R80 000 was awarded in prizes as The Association for the Aged (Tafta) held its first Golden Ticket Lottery last year. The Association took to their Facebook page to announce the winners on January 13, saying that there were three winners who took home prizes of R10 000 each, as well as a bonus grand prize winner who took home R50 000.

Speaking to Berea Mail, Tafta CEO Femada Shamam said their Golden Ticket Lottery is a fixed lottery registered with the National Lotteries Commission. It was launched on September 1, 2022, and ran until December 15, 2022.

“The competition was budgeted for by Tafta with the goal of generating cash prizes through funds raised by ticket sales. All proceeds generated through the Golden Ticket Lottery will go toward sustaining Tafta’s Meals on Wheels and Home-Based Care programmes provided for elders living in the community,” said Shamam.

Entries are now closed, but the competition was open to all South Africans aged 18 and over, with exception of Tafta staff, board members and their immediate families.

“We won’t be running this competition again this year as Tafta turns 65 in 2023, and our focus will be on hosting activities and events to commemorate this milestone, however, we do look forward to refining and reintroducing the Golden Ticket Lottery sometime in the future,” said Femada.

She added that many Tafta elders who could afford tickets entered the December draw. December winners were announced at Tafta’s Head Office and at Tafta Park, one of the Tafta homes located in Bellair.
