Glenwood: Concrete wall collapses, crushing 3 municipal workers

The crushed workers were quickly pulled free by some of their co-workers, and then emergency services were called.

WHILE municipal workers were working on Hunt Road, a wall suddenly collapsed onto three workers, crushing them and leaving them with minor to serious injuries.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the incident occurred just before midday today. “ALS Paramedics received numerous calls of what was thought to be an electrocution on Hunt Road, in the section before Clark Road in the Glenwood area of Durban. ALS Paramedics found that while municipal workers were working on a line, a wall they were working near collapsed, coming to rest on top of them.”

Jamieson said that they were quickly pulled free by some of their co-workers, and then emergency services were called.

“A total of three patients have sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious – they have been stabilised on scene by advanced life support paramedics and are on their way through to the hospital for the further care that they require,” said Jamieson.

The spokesperson said that the scene has been cordoned off and the events leading up to the incident are unknown, but investigations will take place by the necessary authorities.
