Nurses’ Dedication honoured

Also attending the occasion was Bridgid Pogson, former regional nursing manager for Netcare KwaZulu-Natal, who was the honoured guest speaker. She addressed the Netcare St Augustine’s nurses and commended them for their amazing work during the Covid-19 pandemic.

NETCARE St Augustine’s Hospital hosted a special function that honoured their nurses on Nurse’s Day, on Friday, May 12, which included a prizegiving, speeches of gratitude and some delicious food for the hardworking nurses of the local hospital.

Commenting at the function, Netcare St Augustine’s general manager, Heinrich Venter, thanked the nurses of the hospital for their selfl ess dedication: “This year’s Nurse’s Day theme is ‘United in Care’, and as nurses, you have a unique perspective and understanding of how precious life is, and this, in itself, is a gift. You are making a diff erence every day in someone’s life. “No matter how big or how small you give your patients the ability to live their lives to the fullest. You are the light in their lives during the darkness. “You are there to comfort them when they have pain and sorrow; your compassion and care have gone a long way in healing your patients’ souls as well as their bodies. “Thank you for your selfl ess commitment to humanity – your hard work, dedication and compassion. Our community and this hospital’s future is secure because you are united in care.”

Also attending the occasion was Bridgid Pogson, former regional nursing manager for Netcare KwaZulu-Natal, who was the honoured guest speaker. She addressed the Netcare St Augustine’s nurses and commended them for their amazing work during the Covid-19 pandemic. “These past few years have been especially diffi  cult for nurses. The pandemic really highlighted the power of nurses and what you can do, and what we can do together, and that points to the theme of being ‘united in care’. “If we really wanted to make a diff erence, we can. In my whole career, I have never been as proud as I was during the pandemic; you must hold your heads very high because it really did change the world’s perspective on nurses. “We have increasing healthcare needs in this country, and we are defi nitely heading to nurse-led care, and we are going to rely on nurses more and more. “I want to say to the nurses of St Augustine’s, we, as a society, appreciate you; I appreciate you; it’s the service that you bring; it’s the devotion that you give, and it’s your care for one another. You are doing a stellar job – thank you.”
