Miscellaneous activities

Clothing Swap at the Station Collective in the Point

Join the Clothing Swap by registering and booking your spot! A R50 will get you entry into the event with two tokens and a glass of bubbly for the first 50 entries. Get sorting and raid your closet to select clean, undamaged items that are in good condition but which no longer ‘spark joy’. You can bring in up to 10 items – just make sure they are in good condition with no tears or stains, etc, and make sure they are washed.

Drop off your treasures at The Station Collective (170 Mahatma Gandhi Road) on Friday, May 3, from 12:00 to 17:00. Receive tokens for those of your items selected for the swap.

You can also arrive on Saturday (May 4) or Sunday (May 5) before 09:00 to drop off items to take part in the event. Then you can swap till you drop from 10:00 to 17:00.

No clothes to swap? You can buy tokens on the day and still join in on all the fun.

Shows/entertainment

Book ahead for The Music of Queen with Joseph Clark

Veteran musical theatre king Joseph Clark returns to Durban to perform the music that defined his career – The Music of Queen. He is coming to the Playhouse Opera for two shows only, on Friday, May 17, at 19:00, and Saturday afternoon, May 18 at 14:30.

In 1991, in the heyday of Durban’s musical theatre global reign, Joseph Clark, together with Sam Marais, Luciano Zuppa and a host of other stars, under the masterful direction of Geoffrey Sutherland, made theatre magic with the music of Queen at the Opera which delighted a generation of performers and audiences and inspired a slew of productions, films and revues in its wake.

Joseph Clark returns to Durban, to the very same Playhouse Opera stage, to recreate the magic of the music for a whole new generation of music lovers and to allow for a little nostalgia among those who remember the original.

Having performed Queen’s music for over three decades, his show boasts an extensive song list, including hits like Somebody To Love; Another One Bites The Dust; Under Pressure; You Take My Breath Away; Is This the World We Created; Too Much Love Will Kill You; The Show Must Go On; We Will Rock You; Crazy Little Thing Called Love and of course, Bohemian Rhapsody. Additionally, to the delight of many diehard Queen fans, Joseph, alongside guitar virtuoso Axe Lourens, on his real Bryan May red special, also promises to rock the house with the high-energy Dragon Attack and Tie Your Mother Down.

Those who are familiar with Joseph Clark’s prowess will be allowed a little nostalgia when remembering his masterful performances, not only as a singer but also as a ballet dancer and actor.

Tickets are R250 each, and you can book through Webtickets.
