BEREA SAPS reservist makes station proud
Reservist Constable Greg Albert from Berea SAPS returned victorious from the SAPS KZN Excellence Awards, winning the Reservist of the Year award for his hard work and years of dedicated service.
IT was a proud moment for Berea SAPS when one of their members was called to the stage at the Durban ICC on Friday, November 1, to receive the much-coveted Reservist of the Year award at the SAPS KZN Excellence Awards.
Reservist Constable Greg Albert was among the nominees recognised at the prestigious award ceremony for their commitment to executing their duties during the 2023/2024 financial year. The event was attended by KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli and Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Albert was among the men and women in blue who were nominated for excellent service. “Congratulations to all the nominees. We have over 21 000 personnel in the police service in KwaZulu-Natal, and you are sitting here as a nominee. That is a huge achievement,” said Mkhwanazi.

The SAPS Excellence Awards encourage, innovate and reinforce a culture of excellence within the organisation. Berea SAPS Station Commander Colonel Hlengiwe Gcabashe said, “This was a proud moment for me as the station was recognised for its faithful and dedicated service.”
She was very happy and grateful for Albert’s success at the awards. “The awards are a positive and encouraging way for members who perform their duties to the best of their abilities,” added Gcabashe.
Having won the regional and provincial accolades, Albert will be heading to the national competition representing KZN. Following his big win, Albert said he was very proud to have received the award at the SAPS Awards ceremony.

To the shift commanders for keeping me on track – thank you, and thank you to the members for supporting, teaching and guiding me on my journey.”
“Your dedication to maintaining law and order, protecting the vulnerable, and ensuring the safety of our communities does not go unnoticed. Today, we are here, not only to celebrate your achievements but also to acknowledge the sacrifices you make every day in the line of duty.
