Port Natal School hosts funfair fundraiser

Funfair rides and various vendors will be on-site to offer delicious food and entertainment at the Port Natal School fundraiser this weekend. The match between the Springboks and England will also be aired from 19:15 to 21:00.

THE grounds of Port Natal School in Umbilo are all set to host another thrilling weekend of funfair rides and flea market bargain hunting at their annual fundraiser from Friday, November 15, to Sunday, November 17.

Chetty’s Fun Fair rides will take visitors on a roller-coaster-ride of an adventure while various food stalls and vendors keep them entertained on the ground. The principal, Dennis Beukes, said this is one of many events hosted by Port Natal School to raise funds for general maintenance, upkeep and the delivery of quality education at the 83-year-old school.

He said, “Our historic school has been under new leadership since February, and we share a new and vibrant vision to grow Porties back to greatness as a powerhouse in KZN education. We therefore need the buy-in and involvement of not only the broader community of Umbilo but also the alumni of Port Natal School.”

The chairperson of the school governing body (SGB), Liezl Slabbert, said, “We are not a rich school and have kids from various backgrounds attending Port Natal, which is both an Afrikaans and English-medium school that offers parallel medium instruction from Grade R to 12 (Afrikaans) and Gr RR to 9 (English-phased in Grade 10 to 12 over the next three years). We would like as much support as possible from the community – this is an amazing event and initiative that will not be a success without your support.”

The chairperson of the Umbilo CPF Sector 3, Calvin Thomas, ensured the safety of revellers, confirming the presence of Umbilo SAPS, UCCA, NHW and CPF, Blue Security, ADT Security and Homeland Security on-site throughout the day. “We work with the school whenever there are events to ensure safety at the gate and around the venue. We want people to have a good and safe time,” said Thomas.

On Friday, the gates will open at 17:00 and close at 23:00. On Saturday, the gates will open at 13:00 and close at 22:00, and on Sunday, they will open at 13:00 until 20:30. The entry fee is R15 at the gate, and rides are priced at R20 per ticket.

“We plan to broadcast the rugby game between the Springboks and England live from 19:15 to 21:00 in our school hall this Saturday, November 16. The entrance fee is R10 at the door. Please wear green and gold. The public must be aware that alcohol, drugs and weapons are prohibited. Random searches will be conducted to ensure the safety of everyone attending this event and enjoying themselves,” said Beukes.
