Ndlovu Youth Choir debuts in Durban

The Ndlovu Youth Choir is bringing their world-renowned theatre show to The Playhouse in Durban for the first time ever on Saturday and Sunday, November 23 and 24. Durbanites are in for a treat with two hours of captivating entertainment, backed by a live band that will have audiences dancing and singing along. The theatre production presented by Marriott Investment Managers and Impi Live will begin at 14:00, on both days.

The choir’s repertoire is a varied mix of traditional South African genres with pop, rock, jazz and EDM. Their unique musical arrangements, powerhouse vocals, irresistibly combined with mesmerising choreography and infectious energy, have inspired millions across the globe. Their intention to create a fresh and original sound is evident in their ability to take internationally well-known songs – Toto’s Africa, Steve Winwood’s Higher Love and U2’s Beautiful Day – and make them shine. This show promises to be a spectacular journey through the greatest hits of some of the world’s most iconic pianists, including Ray Charles, Bruce Hornsby, Jerry Lee Lewis, Billy Joel and Elton John. International stand-up comedy show brings the laughs

Northlands Bowling Club in association with The Rhumbelow Theatre presents How to Get Away with Marriage, a comedy show from South African-born international stand-up comedian Devin Gray which takes to the stage on Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23.

Gray is bringing his debut show back to South Africa following his success at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe Awards where How to Get Away with Marriage was nominated as the best newcomer. In the solo stand-up show, Gray explores his newfound life as a married man in a fresh, relatable and strangely thrilling take on modern matrimony.

The show on Friday and Saturday starts at 19:30. The venue, Northlands Bowling Club in Durban North, opens 90 minutes before the show for snacks and drinks. Tickets cost R200 and R180 for Northlands Bowling Club members. No alcohol may be brought onto the premises, and a full bar is available – bring food picnic baskets. Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai celebrations

Devotees to gather on November 23 for 99th Advent of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai celebrations.

In honour of the 99th Advent of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai, celebrated worldwide on November 23, the Durban Central Sai Centre invites the public to join them for a special gathering on Saturday, November 23, at the Umgeni Road Temple from 16:00.

Thivesh Allopi from the Durban Central Sai Centre said they are expecting around 200 people to attend the gathering. He said this momentous event offers a unique opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the teachings and life of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai.

The Durban Central Sai Centre also hosts weekly devotional gatherings and celebrations which are open to the public. Every Thursday, Group Devotional Singing begins at 19:00, preceded by Veda Chanting at 18:40. All are welcome to experience the uplifting vibrations in a safe, welcoming environment with ample parking.

St Andrew’s Day lunch

The Durban Caledonian Society will hold a St Andrew’s Day lunch gathering at the Berea Bowling Club, corner of Brand and Ferguson Roads, Umbilo, at 12:30 for 13:00 on Sunday, November 24. There will be dancers, and the pipe band will be playing. The cost is R100, and visitors are welcome. We will provide cold meats, salads, ice cream, Christmas cake and mince pies. Third Flatfoot Access Festival 2024

The Third Flatfoot Access Festival 2024 will be held on Friday, November 29, from 18:30 at the Stable Theatre on 115 Johannes Nkosi Street (formerly Alice Street). It promises a festival of performances, workshops and dialogues that engage access, disability and belonging in dance, featuring the Flatfoot Dance Company, Flatfoot Downie Dance Company, Flatfoot Access Panthers and Wentworth Arts and Culture Dance Movement.
