Bartle Retirement Home cheers for Christmas

The spirit of Christmas can be felt far and wide, even among the elderly whose hearts are young. One retirement home in Umbilo is riding on that spirit to spread the joy and festivity within their retirement facility and beyond.

THE mood is already festive at the Bartle Retirement home where 92 residents are looking forward to the new year.

According to Alan Lukan, executive officer at the home, 2024 has had its fair share of challenges, however they have had joys and celebrations.

“Our biggest challenge was financial worries. Despite the support we get from our trust fund, everything suddenly became too expensive, making the upkeep near impossible. Cost of food went up, maintenance of the facility was difficult. We saw our savings ability dwindle, but despite all of these adversities we were able to keep our residents and the buildings intact, in an attempt to maintain our excellent standard of living.

“As a highlight, we managed to organise our annual fundraising market with resounding success. We can also mention that the introduction of the church on the premises is going a long way in bridging differences and planting seeds of tolerance, harmony and caring among residents,” shared Lukan.

He said although the home lost some members, they have celebrated birthdays and long residency milestones.

“We are looking forward to the new year, as we have several in-house projects and activities planned. We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our supporters and funders who make the living possible for the elderly.”

The Bartle House wishes all community members a safe festive season, with love and kindness.
