Glenwood, Bulwer community rolls up sleeves for change

The community of Glenwood prepares to bring about change and improvement in the area, amidst challenges faced by residents and ratepayers. Under a relaxed, casual atmosphere community leaders will address the challenges to ensure that the suburb becomes cleaner and safer.

THE beginning of the new year presents renewed hope for the residents and ratepayers of Glenwood and Bulwer. On January 29, the community is invited to gather and share concerns and ideas on how to restore and revitalise the area.

“The set-up will be that of a picnic, where people can bring blankets, chairs and refreshments. However it will be an afternoon of serious engagements regarding Glenwood and Bulwer,” said Keyuren Maharaj, chairperson of the Glenwood / Bulwer Ratepayers & Residents Association (GBRRA).

He added, “We are expanding the area of reach and employing improvement of a larger scale. Instead of receiving and addressing individual residents, we figured that it would be wise to do it under one banner. Residents will get an opportunity to listen to what GBRRA has in store for the year 2025. Following this, the residents will get an opportunity to pose questions and make suggestions on how to improve our area. This will be a 90-minute interaction all concerned residents must be part of.

“We are delighted to have forged solid relations with the municipality, SAPS, UIP and other NGOs in the area. This has yielded visible results,” Maharaj said.

Issues of concern in the Glenwood / Bulwer area include litter, vagrancy, crime, and rates. Maharaj urges residents to take part in keeping their surroundings clean, including parks and roads. “Residents must organise themselves to engage and take pride in clean-up activities, safety initiatives and keeping the area appealing. This can contribute to keeping property at acceptable levels.”

The meet and greet affair will take place at Meyrick Bennet Park on JB Marks Road at 17:30 and all residents are urged to come. Pets will be allowed and there will be tight security, with SAPS on site.
