Comrades Marathon communications manager steps downs from role

Delaine Cools said she plans to embark on a new chapter in her life.

AFTER 15 years in the role as marketing and communications manager for the Comrades Marathon, Delaine Cools has decided to step down.

Cools also worked as radio journalist for the SABC and a public relations officer for Lastek.

On Tuesday, she issued a statement saying she leaves her role with a ‘deep sense of gratitude and appreciation’.

“Throughout my tenure, I have witnessed the Comrades Marathon continue to grow and evolve into a world-renowned event that embodies the spirit of camaraderie, perseverance, and athletic excellence. Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones, overcome challenges, and created unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you. To my colleagues, your unwavering support, hard work, and commitment have been the driving force behind our success. Your teamwork and enthusiasm have made every project and initiative a rewarding experience,” she said.

She added she looks forward to cheering on the Comrades Marathon from the sidelines.

“As I embark on a new chapter in my life, I carry with me the lessons learnt, the friendships formed, and the pride of having been part of something truly special. While it is bittersweet to say goodbye, I am confident that the Comrades Marathon will continue to thrive and reach new heights with its loyal and faithful staff and volunteers,” she said.
