SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda explained, “Swift response by police in Durban Central resulted in the arrest of three suspects, shortly after they allegedly assaulted and robbed two European tourists of a cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money along the beachfront in Durban on Friday night.

“Police responded to reports of gunshots at the fishing pier, and upon arrival at the scene, police were informed that two tourists were robbed of a cellphone and money by two suspects. Police moved swiftly and arrested the two suspects who were positively identified by the victims. One of the suspects was found in possession of the cellphone which was stolen from the victims. Spot-on police intelligence led to the arrest of a third suspect, an e-hailing driver whose vehicle was allegedly going to be used to get away from the scene.”

The three suspects are aged between 20 and 26.
