Aweh! What’s happening in Durban

Prepare for a weekend full of music, fun activities, markets, and memorable experiences in Durban.

DURBAN is bringing entertainment for everyone these next few days. From markets, musical concerts and a fun run, residents are spoilt for choice.

Browse upmarket lifestyle stalls

Born from humble thrift community roots, the Upper Highway Thrifted and Vintage Treasures Market has evolved to showcase extraordinary and upmarket lifestyle stalls.

Be part of a fun-filled day with DJ vibes on Saturday, June 21 from 09:00 to 14:00.

With more than 40 stalls, people can discover vintage treasures, antique valuations, preloved items from R20, handmade art, jewellery, decadent food stalls, and homemade treats.

Located just across Kloof Village Mall, the market offers spacious indoor and outdoor stalls, expansive sports grounds, and a lush environment. Enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere, food stalls, visitor chill-out areas, safe parking, and hall facilities. This is a home from home market with a great vendor community.

Look out for the ‘What’s Your Treasure Worth?’ section and the Antiques and Vintage Valuation Roadshow.

Music for trumpet and organ

A GLORIOUS winter morning concert of music for trumpet and organ will be performed at St Cyprian’s Church, 603 Umbilo Road on Sunday, June 22 at 11:00.
The music morning will feature Margrit Deppe on organ and Yosuke Matsui on trumpet. Three festive choral pieces will be performed – by Albinoni, Stephenson and Vierne. They are known for their deep lyricism and majestic triumphant sounds, which show off the many colours of the organ, and the emotional rousing qualities of the trumpet. Included in the programme will be short stand-alone hymns and praise and worship pieces for organ and trumpet.

Matsui is a Yamaha performing artist, and principal trumpet player with the KZN Philharmonic, who has served as principal trumpet of the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra; Chiba Symphony Orchestra in Japan, and tutti trumpet in the Sydney Orchestra in Australia. He holds a master’s degree from Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music. His expertise ranges across various types of trumpets.
