Durbanites encouraged to cheer Proteas on in victory tour

The Proteas will visit cities across the nation, and the Durban leg will be on Wednesday, September 24.

PROTEAS men’s captain Temba Bavuma and some of his teammates will embark on a nationwide tour next week to celebrate the team lifting the Test Mace in the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).

The Proteas defeated Australia by five wickets in the final at Lord’s, England, in June this year.

The triumph meant that South Africa ended a 27-year wait, or 9722 days to be exact, for ICC success, as this was the first senior men’s trophy since the 1998 ICC Knockout victory.

Now under the banner of ‘United in victory’ the team will visit cities across the nation, including Durban, with the Test Mace on Wednesday (September 24).

“For the Proteas Men, the opportunity to share this milestone with fans nationwide is a vital part of honouring their victory, regardless of how much time has passed,” said Cricket SA corporate communications manager Kirsty du Toit.

The tour will take place over a four-day period, stopping at unique locations within each city.

On Heritage day (Wednesday, September 24), the Proteas will depart from uMhlanga and stop at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium (08:30 to 09:30) and that will be followed by a SAB Braai Day at Kingsmead (09:30 to 12:00)

The exact route has not yet been determined.
