Man made to wash dishes, arrested for dodging restaurant bill
A man is in custody, charged with bilking, following his refusal to pay a R1500 bill at a popular restaurant on Florida Road. This was after he was made to wash loads of dishes.
AFTER feasting at a restaurant on Florida Road yesterday (Monday), a man allegedly refused to pay his R1500 bill. The management allegedly forced him to wash loads of dishes, and later reported him to the police, resulting in his arrest. He was charged with bilking.
Kyle van Reenen, general manager of Ensure Security, shared, “On Monday evening, at approximately 18:00, we received an alert regarding an incident at a popular restaurant on Florida Road. It was reported that a male suspect had consumed over R1500 worth of food and then refused to pay, claiming he had no money.

“Our dedicated area vehicle was immediately dispatched. In the interim, the restaurant’s management made the suspect wash dirty dishes in the kitchen as a consequence, while awaiting the arrival of law enforcement. The SAPS were called to the scene and, upon arrival, took the suspect into custody for further investigation and processing,” Van Reenen said.
A case of bilking was reportedly opened with SAPS.
