Network fault knocks out eThekwini emergency lines

A network fault has disrupted eThekwini’s emergency and toll-free lines - alternative contact numbers now activated.

A NETWORK fault has been identified by the eThekwini Municipality as the cause for “critical communication services” being down across the city.

Municipal spokesperson Gugu Sisilana said that the toll‑free number and emergency lines are temporarily preventing residents from reaching emergency teams through the usual channels.

“The Municipality understands the urgency and importance of these essential services, and the public is assured that technical teams are working around the clock to identify and resolve the fault,” said Sisilana. “All available resources have been deployed to restore full functionality as quickly as possible.”

She said while the normal lines of communications are down, alternative contact numbers for assistance have been opened by the City.

“These measures are in place to ensure residents can continue accessing essential municipal services without disruption,” said Sisilana. “The municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused and appeals for patience and understanding as technicians work diligently to stabilise the system.”
