WIN: Bootlegger Musgrave hosts Valentine’s Day murder mystery dinner experience
Bootlegger on Musgrave is turning Valentine’s Day into an immersive murder mystery with a three-course dinner and interactive storytelling.
A NIGHT of passion, secrets and suspense awaits diners at Bootlegger on Musgrave, at the Musgrave Centre, which will host a unique Valentine’s Day Murder Mystery dining experience on Saturday, February 14, from 18:00.
Priced at R699 per couple, the experience includes an interactive murder mystery, a three-course plated dinner and a drink. According to Bootlegger on Musgrave owner Abigail Nair, the addition of intrigue and immersive storytelling transforms an ordinary Valentine’s dinner into a truly memorable occasion.
“Valentine’s Day gives us an opportunity to offer an authentic Bootlegger experience, reimagined for this special celebration,” said Nair. “Murder mystery events have grown from niche entertainment into a popular social experience. They appeal to people who want to participate, engage and connect. Valentine’s Day provides the perfect occasion to achieve this.”

Guests will be drawn into a dramatic storyline where nothing is quite as it seems, encouraging interaction in a relaxed and playful atmosphere. Nair said the experience is designed to spark connection and collaboration, with couples working together to uncover clues.
“As couples work together to piece together clues, they create shared memories that last long after the evening ends. The laughter, surprising twists and memorable moments become stories that are retold and relived,” said Nair.
“At Bootlegger, we like to say, ‘come for the coffee, stay for the experience’. This Valentine’s Day, we want to create an evening that leaves guests with unique memories, whether they’re celebrating with a partner, friends or family.”

Founded in Sea Point, Cape Town, in 2013, Bootlegger has grown into a nationally recognised café brand. The Musgrave branch, which opened in December 2024, marks the franchise’s first outlet in KwaZulu-Natal.
Over the years Bootlegger has evolved to becoming more than just about great coffee. Nair said Bootlegger cafés have become spaces where people can connect, enjoy the atmosphere and share good food made with premium, locally sourced ingredients. “From early morning coffees and all-day breakfasts to relaxed lunches and evening dining, the menu is crafted to suit every occasion,” she added.
