Security tightened ahead of Bafana vs Panama game in Durban
Bafana Bafana have landed in eThekwini ahead of their friendly match with Panama at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday.
SECURITY has been tightened ahead of the Bafana Bafana game tonight (March 27) at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium with the eThekwini Municipality expecting an influx of fans to the city.
Bafana Bafana will take on Panama in an international friendly. The hyped-up match is a build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, kicking off in June.
Municipal spokesperson Gugu Sisilana confirmed that the national squad arrived safely on Thursday at the King Shaka International Airport to great excitement from fans and officials.

“The atmosphere at the airport this afternoon was electric, reflecting the passion and support of the Durban community,” said Sisilana. “South African Football Association (SAFA) CEO, Danny Jordaan, expressed his gratitude for the reception, noting that the energy from supporters will serve as added motivation ahead of the highly anticipated match.”

Sisilana said comprehensive preparations have been completed to ensure a safe, secure, and world-class experience for all spectators. “While no road closures have been confirmed, Durban Metro Police has advised that heavy traffic is expected, particularly as the match coincides with other major sporting events in the City,” she said.
Key routes, including Masabalala Yengwa Avenue and surrounding intersections will be under increased monitoring. “With large crowds expected, spectators are encouraged to arrive early to allow sufficient time for parking, security screening, and seating. Late arrivals may face heavy traffic, long queues, and delays entering the stadium,” said Sisilana.
She reminded soccer fans that the highly anticipated Legends Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, scheduled for Sunday, March 29, at Moses Mabhida Stadium, has been cancelled.
“According to a statement issued by the event organisers, the decision was not taken lightly,” said Sisilana.
“Despite our unwavering commitment and extensive efforts to bring this historic and nostalgic event to life, we have encountered circumstances beyond our control that have made it impossible to proceed as planned,” the organisers said.
Ticket holders are advised that full refunds will be processed through the official ticketing partner, Ticketpro.

Tickets remain available for the international friendly and can be purchased via Ticketpro for R80, and under-12s enter for R50. Kickoff is at 19:00 today (March 27) for the Bafana Bafana vs Panama game.
