For families, the city is leaning into its reputation as a child-friendly destination with special holiday programmes at uShaka Marine Theme Park, alongside activities at Mitchell Park Zoo and the Durban Botanic Gardens, which are set to keep young minds busy, curious, and thoroughly entertained throughout the school break.
eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba extended an open invitation to visitors, encouraging them to make Durban their Easter destination. “So, if you have not yet decided where to spend your Easter holidays, we invite you to visit Durban, because Durban has more,” said Xaba who highlighted that Durban was listed at number 14 for places to visit in 2026 by Time Out.

The entertainment line-up is not limited to Easter as Durban’s events calendar stretches well beyond April, with major attractions set to heat up autumn and winter. The much-anticipated return of the Metro FM Music Awards on April 25, and Africa’s Travel Indaba in May have cemented Durban as Africa’s favourite playground.

Xaba said globally recognised events such as the Comrades Marathon, Hollywoodbets Durban July, Disney on Ice, UB40 concert, Gas Motor Show, and the Durban International Marathon will continue to cement the city’s status as a premier events destination.
The Good Friday Service that the municipality will host jointly with the Diakonia Council of Churches will be on April 3. Police will monitor this, and other church gatherings taking place throughout the city, and assist in controlling traffic where needed.
