Highway Radio 101.5 officially launched with MDDA support
Highway Radio 101.5 enters a new era as Deputy Minister Kenny Morolong officially hands over the station.
IT was a remarkable day of celebration for Highway Radio 101.5 listeners and the wider Christian community, as Deputy Minister in The Presidency, Kenny Morolong, officially unveiled the station and marked its handover on May 8 in Christianburg, Pinetown.
After years of unwavering faith, sacrifice, and dedication, Highway Radio stepped boldly into a new season, supported and funded by the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA).
According to the chairperson of the Board of Highway Community Radio Station, Jeffey Cooper, the station will be more than just a broadcaster; it will be a voice for the community, creating local content that reflects its people, their stories, and their faith, while uplifting hearts through the power of gospel music.
“This station is a place to proclaim the name of Jesus Christ, to bring hope to the community and families,” he said.

The moment felt far greater than a formal handover. It was the fulfilment of a long-held dream, a testimony to perseverance, and a promise finally kept. Through every challenge, the station remained a beacon of faith, encouragement, and unity for the community it serves.

“As local communities, we long for more stations like Highway Radio — stations that draw people closer to God and remind them they are not alone. In a world that feels increasingly fragile, especially for young people, such voices offer hope, guidance, and a sense of belonging when it’s needed most,” said Nelisiwe Nyanisa, the councillor for Ward 21 in Pinetown.

Now, with renewed support and a brighter future ahead, listeners can look forward to the continued growth of a platform that has become more than just a radio station; it is a voice of hope, a source of inspiration, and a home for the community. The Deputy Minister highlighted that radio stations play a significant role in society by holding leaders accountable and promoting discourse within the community.

With the support of the MDDA and the commitment of its leadership, presenters, and listeners, the station is poised to continue inspiring lives, uplifting communities, and giving a voice to local stories rooted in hope and unity. For many, this is more than the growth of a radio station, it is the realisation of a vision that will continue to strengthen and connect the community for generations to come.
