Glenwood pre-school reopens after sewage spill disruption

While classes have resumed, repair crews continue working on a collapsed sewer line and blocked pipes in Clark Road.

CLASSES and normal services have resumed at the Glenwood Community Church which houses the Glenwood Community Pre-School which was temporarily closed last week.

The pre-school opened their doors to learners today (June 9), much to the jubilation of the children, parents and staff. The school was forced to close due to a sewage leak which made it impossible for the learners and staff to continue with lessons.

Reverend Derryll Ragwan said the senior and youth ministries which were also affected will go back to their regular schedule of meeting during the week.

“We are grateful to all those that intervened in matter and assisted us during the crisis, particularly Ward Councillor Fran Kristopher and Bidvest Prestige for cleaning and sanitising the area so that the pre-school could reopen.’

He said the church was able to hold Sunday service as normal as the City was able to stem the flow of raw sewage onto the property on Saturday.

“We were able to continue with the service but could not stay afterwards for tea and socialising which we normally do, the smell was still bad,” said Ragwan. “We are grateful that is being sorted out.”

While work is continuing, a section of Clark Road is closed to motorists. The road had to be dup to remove the roots and tree trunks that were blocking the sewage system.

However it looks like Kristopher said the sewer line had collapsed and tree roots are also blocking pipes.
