Council is not on the side of ratepayers

The ANC should concentrate on ridding Durban of crime, vagrants and on the upkeep and maintenance of the city, says resident .

EDITOR – So it’s been given the go ahead, Berea Mail Friday 5 September Green light for high rise, Argyle Road.

As one of the many objectors to the extent of the build, I am really not surprised at the unanimous ANC vote in favour of the project. The council is not on the side of the ratepayers or even the people, they are there for entitlement.

Fifty-seven objections is a hefty sum, but this made no difference to council, perhaps it is the fact that it was a DA councillor who spoke on behalf of the objectors, that swayed the vote in favour of the build. We all know how arrogant the ANC is towards the DA.

The most stupidest remarks to come from council (and there’s been a lot of them) is that it will ‘benefit the people living far away’ how will it benefit them, the reason they live far away, is because they can’t afford to live in the city, or they probably don’t want to live in the city, because it is a filth pit.

The ANC council would be better off concentrating on ridding Durban of crime, vagrants and concentrating on the upkeep and maintenance of the city.

Council needs to take a look at how Cape Town conducts business, they could learn a hell of a lot.

Cape Town is now addressing the problem of slum lords, getting owners to clean up neglected buildings. What is Durban council doing, nothing.

Everything that councillor Martin Meyer said in that article makes complete sense, unfortunately Town Planning collectively do not have the sense to grasp the truth of what he says.
