Police are just doing their job

A resident feels the news from the police in the paper is to boost their own ego.

EDITOR – Janice Wahl raises a very valid point about the proliferation of negative news in the form the self-congratulatory reports from SAPS Berea and Umbilo.

It just seems to be a case of blowing their own trumpet. After all they are just doing their job and should get on with it without resorting to using valuable column inches of a community newspaper that should be publicising positive stories.

Reading all the “success” stories about our local police makes me wonder if I live in a different area because I have had nothing but shocking service from the Umbilo SAPS after an armed robbery.

Despite giving the investigating officer some vital information I am unable to motivate him to actually leave his desk and do some basic police work.

Three months down the line and I have to repeatedly phone to remind him that as a ratepayer/taxpayer I expect some sort of action and more importantly some feedback on my case.
