EDITOR – An appalling show of lawlessness and disrespect for people and property occurred in Florida Road and in the grounds of St Joseph's Church on Saturday 8 November.
A gang of bikers commenced by simultaneously spinning the wheels of their bikes, outside the entrance of the church. Evidence of this is quite visible, due to the black circles left on the newly tarred surface of Florida Road.
This deafening noise and pollution of the air with acrid smoke heralded the arrival of the first wedding guests, then later the arrival of the bride and finally the departure of those attending the ceremony. This was no spontaneous event as the wedding planners were fully aware of a well co-ordinated event.
When the bikers were confronted by residents and car guards, their defiance was nothing but arrogant.
The lame duck response of Metro Police just reinforces the sentiment that time and again there is apathy regarding these types of incidents.
In conclusion there is a general perception that motorists of Florida Road consider this to be their playground. Without the interception of the law this behaviour will continue until a ongoing police presence is apparent.
