EDITOR – This is an open letter to the mayor.
Dear Mr Mayor,
Once again the filthy beachfront issue raises its ugly head. I went down to the beach for my usual Sunday morning meditation and walking session today only to leave with a very, very sad heart…rubbish thrown everywhere, empty broken beer bottles thrown on the concrete promenade, no clean grassy patches to sit down on, intoxicated members of the public falling all over the place, people urinating in clear view of the public, even saw a couple cavorting on a bonnet of a car partially dressed and totally unaware of others passing by, including children on bicycles. Is this what our once blissful beachfront has come to, is this what our children need to be exposed to, is this really a place we want to call home?
When is our local SAPS going to put a stop to the public drinking, public partying throughout the night? This behaviour is in blatant violation of every bylaw that we as normal rate payers have to abide by. Instead, our police force are sitting on the side of the road under trees or napping in their vehicles, and writing up petty parking tickets. Maybe they should take this huge opportunity to make a difference in the up keep of the law. This is clearly a situation where the police are totally ineffective in so much as they don’t even patrol the areas as they are too scared to confront these groups of drunken, disorderly, disrespectful individuals, who will quite nonchalantly sit amongst the filth, whilst watching cleaning contractors pick up around them.
This has been happening for years now on a weekly basis from a Friday through to Sunday. Our beautiful beachfront which you have spent millions on upgrading, becomes a dodgy area to move around in as these drunken and disorderly individuals shout out abusive foul slurs at both men and woman as they pass by, and in most cases with their children around. As a regular local beach-goer I strongly suggest you take this seriously as there is a fraternity out there that is becoming very fed up with this kind of behaviour and if not sorted out soon I can assure there will be a clash of sorts that will force the police to intervene.
Concerned citizens need answers please!
