
EDITOR – In a daily newspaper on 22 January the present Catholic pontiff, Pope Francis, makes two contradictory statements.
On the one hand, he has apparently said that Catholics do not need to breed “like rabbits”. Then, two days later, he repeated the Roman Catholic's opposition to artificial contraceptives, and said, “Some say that families with many children and the birth of many children are among the causes of poverty. It is a simplistic opinion.”
I would like to add a few letters to that last sentence, namely that “having many children gives rise to poverty” is a simply realistic opinion.
