EDITOR – Allow me to issue the following 'National Advisory' through your publication.
As many would have gathered, it is SO-season again. It is the time of year when heads of governments get to deliver their 'State of the' addresses. We will have, in quick succession, the SONA, SOPA and SOMA from the president, provincial premiers and municipal mayors, respectively.
As in the past, most of the addresses will attempt to paint rosy pictures of the nation, province and municipalities, respectfully. As in the past, many of us will fall about laughing at those delivering the addresses simply because we see the glaring irony, hypocrisy and arrogance of the addresses.
So the SO (no, that is not a typo) National Advisory is: You are advised to brace yourselves for yet another round of rip-roaring, self-confident, unflinching, laugh-a-minute addresses designed specifically to impress. Belt-up or you will again be ROTFLYHO (And let's not even factor in the, er, fashions!).
The addresses would have us believe this land is being governed successfully when, in fact, all it is is 'nice from far, but far from nice'. They would have us believe the CNN, NYT and other polls speak to governance when they are but an indication of where tourists should be seen.
For taxpayers, residents and citizens, this land is monumental governmental disappointment personified. They experience, consciously or not, a lack of will to uphold Acts, laws, by-laws, policies and guidelines every day.
Several. Times. A. Day – Every. Single. Day.
