Install steel domes to slow motorists down

A resident wants a logical reason why humps cannot be installed at stop streets, such as Cromwell and Brand Roads.

EDITOR – I visit Caltex offices in Umhlanga Ridge – Ridgeside office park and there are steel domes on each intersection which forces people to slow right down.

I want the municipality to give me a logical reason why humps cannot be installed at stop streets, such as Cromwell and Brand Roads, an issue which I have been addressing with the municipality for years.

It would be very simple and would not require a separate warning sign pole. The warning sign could be erected on the stop sign pole.

This is clearly an idea that has not been promoted before and I certainly believe it has merit. I also believe that it should be tried and accompanied by a publicity campaign and would be very successful.

Installation of speed humps at stop streets would be 24 hour self policing and motorists could not claim any sort of damages as they should have stopped for the stop sign so if they claim they were not warned they would be admitting that they did not stop!
