Thanks for the article

A concerned resident is saddened by the building extensions at Musgrave Court, what she calls a monstrosity.

EDITOR – Thank you so much for publishing a photo and an article in connection with 183 Musgrave Road.

I walk past this new monstrosity nearly every day and some weeks ago I popped into the chemist to find out who was the owner and whether they had permission to do this building, destroying one of the delightful old buildings on Musgrave Road.

I phoned the owners a few times and they said the plans were with the city. I could not understand why there had been no notice up asking for objections to the intended construction.

I also contacted your offices to get in touch with someone connected with Save our Berea, but Cheryl Johnson was away at that time. I was told that Berea Mail would pass on my concerns.

I also phoned Amafa in Pietermaritzburg, with little success, plus I spoke to the building inspector. Mr Raymond Moodley promised that the façade would look the same as the old buildings.

I did not feel that I could do much more about it, but as mentioned above, I am delighted that it has been taken up by our ward councillor and that the necessary steps have been taken.

Thank you again.
