Living with a false sense of security

A resident says he has had five break-ins in as many weeks where access has been gained by burglars slipping between the burglar guards.

EDITOR – I write in the hope of preventing others in our community falling victim to burglars as we have.

Our block of flats replaced all our windows with custom made aluminium ones. They came fitted with evenly spaced two bar burglar guarding per opening window.

We thought this would protect us, but it hasn't.

We've had five break-ins in as many weeks where access has been gained by burglars (adult, not children) slipping between the burglar guards.

Our burglar guards seem to be the standard configuration applied by aluminium window fitters and I hope this letter will cause all Berea inhabitants who have this burglar guarding to please have it changed as soon as possible, because you are living with a false sense of security.

In addition I think consumer protection institutions should follow up on how to stop this being common practice when installing replacement aluminium windows and burglar guards.
