Thank you for assisting my mum after mugging

A woman is grateful to the kind community members of Umbilo who assisted her elderly mother after she was robbed on Monday.

EDITOR- I would like to sincerely thank the ladies and couple who came to the aid of my mother and I after our traumatic mugging at the bus top on Bartle Road on Monday afternoon.

My mother is a 72-year-old woman and we have walked down to the Queensmead SPAR for the past 12 years with no incident until Monday. I want to warn the community, especially the elderly, as many from the MOTH Cottages and Natal Settlers also walk down there. While at the bus stop, a man asked my mother for a pen, she said she didn't have one and I also said sorry. Then he pushed her and she fell to the ground. He grabbed at her bag and I tried to grab the bag and eventually two ladies stopped to help us and he ran off. I realised I had grabbed his bag in the rush and the ladies went to report the incident while another kind couple gave us a lift to our home.

My mum had to go to King Edward hospital twice already and has three broken bones as a result of the mugging.

Fearful but thankful daughter,

Umbilo
