No more free parking at Musgrave

A reader said he will no longer be shopping at Musgrave Centre.

EDITOR – Musgrave centre is going to be charging for all parking from 1 February.

There will no longer be free parking, as the tariff has increased to R6 from 0-1 hour.

I for one will no longer be shopping there. Typical money-hungry business that offers no extra value.

Musgrave Center general manager, Mariam Omarjee responds:

Musgrave Centre has held the parking tariff stable since early 2015. The tariff increase is aligned with tariffs charged at regional shopping centres similar to Musgrave Centre.

Security protocol has further necessitated the removal of the general limited free parking in an effort to curb the easy entry and exit, in the wake of nationwide crime and vehicle theft at malls.

The increase in the parking tariff was reviewed over the past week through a consultation process with Interpark, the centre’s parking management company. An updated tariff structure will be released shortly in line with market trends.

Pick n Pay shoppers and pensioners who validate their parking tickets at the information desk are entitled to 1½ hours of free parking. Gym members have the same entitlement when validating at the gym.
