Abuse of handicapped parking should be policed

A woman has written to the police regarding the blatant abuse of handicapped parking.

EDITOR – I am a handicapped pensioner and registered as such with the appropriate disk to place on my car when using handicapped parking.

On Tuesday 28 March at 11.15am I tried to use the handicapped parking outside Durban City Hall and a car was parked there.

I advised the driver it was a handicapped zone and he was therefore illegally parked there and he said he was waiting for someone and then closed his window.

I have written to the police and provided a photo of the car showing the registration number, as the abuse of handicapped parking in the city is rife, with city vehicles and ordinary vehicles, parking illegally all the time.

Surely these sites should be checked on a regular basis and the people illegally parked should be fined.
