Juicers
There are two basic types of options of automatic electric juicers on the market for home use.
Which will work best for you depends on your budget as well as what type of fruit you are planning to extract juice from.
Traditionally centrifugal Juice Extractors are the most common type of juicer and typically utilize a fast-spinning metal blade that spins against a mesh filter, separating juice from flesh via centrifugal force separating the juice and pulp into different containers.
One problem with these types of juicers that might affect the quality of the juice they produce is that the friction of the fast-spinning metal blades generate heat, destroying some of the enzymes in the fruits and vegetables you’re juicing. The heat also oxidizes those nutrients, rendering less nutritious juice than a cold-press juicer.
Also known as masticating juicers, cold-press juicers juice by first crushing and then pressing fruit and vegetables for the highest juice yield. Because they don’t produce as much heat, they keep more of the fresh ingredients’ nutrients intact.
Buy a centrifugal juicer if you plan to use the juice mostly for cooking, baking or other processes where heat will eventually be applied or you are fussy about the nutrient content and are trying to save money. However, if you are looking at lifestyle and health-based juicing regimen to try to cleanse your diet, plan to be making nut milk and green juices and want to pack the most nutrients into your body then the slow cold-pressed option is the best your money can buy.
Ice cream makers
A domestic ice cream maker is a machine used to make small quantities of ice cream for personal consumption. Old-fashioned hand-cranked ice cream makers have been replaced by electric ice cream machines, but the concept of how the frozen concoction is made remains the same, as does the pleasure of consuming freshly made ice cream.
In its simplest form, ice cream is milk or cream combined with a sweetener, such as sugar or honey, although sugar is more common and gives the finished product better texture. Flavorings such as chocolate or vanilla enhance the mixture, and nuts, candy morsels, fudge ribbons, and other add-ins provide texture and complexity of taste.
Types of ice-cream makers include countertop versions which include their own freezing mechanism or in-freezer versions which allow you more control but less automation of the process. Before choosing an ice cream machine, consider the durability of the parts and the availability of replace-ment parts. Commercial and industrial machines often use the same concept but industrial machines generally contain complex parts as do the more expensive and sophisticated home use versions.
