Cricket tourney showcases young talent
The three-day T-20 cricket tourney for U11 cricketers across the province takes place in Botha's Hill this weekend.
THE popular annual three-day T20 cricket tournament, showcasing the strength of the province’s under-11 talent, starts on Friday, 20 September and at Highbury Preparatory and Kearsney College in Botha’s Hill.
Eighteen teams will take part in the Jonssons/Kingsmead Mynahs 20/20 under 11 cricket tournament. Now in its fifth year, it has grown to include 16 top primary school teams and two development sides sponsored by the KZN Cricket Union.
Participating school teams are the Highbury Hurricanes, Thomas More Titans, Hillcrest Hotshots, Westville Warriors, Kloof Cobras, Winston Park Pythons, Curro HCA Pinch Hitters, DPHS Dragons, Glenwood Hoppers, Clifton Chargers, Chelsea Lions, Northlanders, Crawford Kings X1, Umhlali Dolphins, Pelham Panthers and St Charles Strikers.
In addition, the two participating KZNCU development sides are the Umgeni Mambas and Durban Central Tigers.
The tournament runs from Friday to Sunday (20-22 September).
Tournament organisers Phil Ratcliffe and Mike Griffiths promise three fun-filled days and urge supporters of young cricketing talent to attend.
The coffee shop at Kearney College will be open for the duration of the tournament for snacks and light lunches.
