Glenwood’s marksmen on target
Glenwood pupils dominated at the annual South African Air Rifle Association (SAARA) national championships.
GLENWOOD High School, which forms the body of the SAARA Coastal club, dominated at the annual South African Air Rifle Association (SAARA) national championships in Klerksdorp recently.
Five pupils from SAARA Coastal, four from Glenwood High School and a 13-year-old girl from Glenwood Prep, achieved national association colours. Tayla Cronje, 13, was the lone girl alongside Dylan Drysdale, 13; Jonathan Visser, 13; his brother Daniel Visser, 14; and James Wyllie, 17, all from Glenwood High.
KZN Coastal achieved the most national association colors out of all the provinces, and four of the five awards went to junior shottists. The national awards have not been achieved by a KZN shottist since 2008 when a Glenwood High boy made SA schools honours.
Joshua Cronje, 16, won bronze for the U20 Springer section this weekend, Daniel Visser, bronze for U16, and Dylan Drysdale, silver for U14.
Gunsmith and Glenwood High assistant coach Sam Cronje, 45, father of Tayla and Joshua, took gold in the F-Class. He is the only F-Class shottist in South Africa.
