Clifton come out on top at tournament
Clifton's water polo team overcame some tough competition to take the title at a recent tournament.
THE recent annual Grey College Water Polo Tournament saw Clifton School come out on top against tough opposition.
Reddam won last year’s title, defeating St Stithians in the final. This year saw St Stithians, Reddam, Grey High and Clifton seeded number one in each pool.
On day one, St Stithians lost by a goal to Pearson while the other seeds progressed unscathed. Clifton notched two easy wins against Grey High and the Invitation Team, 17-1 and 19-1 respectively.
On day two, the pool games finished off as expected with all the seeds winning and Clifton beating St Peters with a convincing 10-3 victory.
The quarter finals and playoffs saw Reddam defeated by Pearson and St Stithians defeated by Wynberg in two exciting games.
The semi-finals were tightly contested games seeing Wynberg defeat Pearson and Clifton beat a tough Grey High team to proceed to the final. The determined Clifton side went on to secure the title against Wynberg, with the game ending in a 14-6 rout.
