Students host soccer tourney
Four months of planning by DUT students resulted in a successful soccer tournament.
SECOND year sports management studies students from Durban University of Technology hosted a successful indoor soccer tournament on Friday.
According to Ntobeko Mbambo, the students were required to plan and execute a sports event of any sports code as an assignment. His team decided to organise a seven-a-side indoor soccer tournament.
The event took place at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre at the university's Steve Biko Campus from 9am to 3pm and students as well as outsiders made up the eight teams taking part on the day.
“We used students and players from outside the university to make it more fun and competitive. Each of my team had different duties to perform, such as PR, referees, announcers and so on. We also had some first year students volunteering at the event. It took us four months to put this together and I am pleased everything has gone to plan,” said Ntobeko.
