KZN’S stongest men face off

KZN'S strongest men will faceoff at Berea Rovers Club this Saturday,to claim the title at the Strongman Competition and Sports Expo.

KZN'S strongest men will gather at Berea Rovers Club this Saturday, 30 August to face off against each other in the Core Events Strongman Competition and Sports Expo.

Rory Scheepers, co-ordinator and ex-SA 105kg Strongman champion said the action begins at 10am and goes on until 4pm where KZN’s top power house competitors will complete 10 gruelling events to see who will be KZN’s ultimate champion and qualify for the National Strongman Competition in November.

South Africa possesses some of the strongest men in the world, some of whom have entered the WSM (world’s strongest man events). These awesome athletes dedicate their lives to this extreme sport. Here in KZN strongmen will wow crowds as they witness first hand unbelievable feats of strength that some may have never seen before. “Locals can see live the famous and gruelling strongmen events they see on TV like log lifts, tyre flips and atlas stone lifts,” explained Scheepers.

Anton Buckner, a strength coach and former power lifter, will also participate in the gruelling competition. “The trick about the Strongman competition is you can't expect to just be strong, but need to work hard at it and train,” said Buckner. He added that the sport was gaining interest. Guys and girls from all walks of life are training to be “strongmen.” We have a firefighter, lawyer, graphic designer and even a mushroom farmer training at my gym. Everyone can do it, the only thing is that you must prove that you can push yourself and try not to get injured,” he said.

VIP tickets to the competition cost R200 including food and drinks while general tickets are R25 per person. Contact Core Events on 073 446 7838 for VIP tickets while general tickets can be bought through Computicket and at the entrance on the day.
