COACHING sessions for Umbilo Harlequins Juniors started on Sunday 14 September, with various fielding skill assimilations at Harlequins.
The first team had its first pre-season match at Hutchinson Park and a composite fourth and fifth combination versed Newlands East / Kenseas' second team at Harlequins 2. Results of these matches were irrelevant as the objectives for these matches were achieved in providing players with vital game time for the imminent league season ahead.
Durban and District matches have not yet formally been publicised, but it is understood that Challenge reserve matches will start on Sunday 28 September.
Although the club has heaps of assets in the form of senior teams and two junior sides, it is seeking the services of a manager for its under thirteen outfit. Intricate cricket knowledge is not a critical requirement, but mere fundamental management capabilities are essential. A student not participating in senior Sunday leagues or a retiree would ideally be suited for this task. Chores involved would be attendance of one training session a week and approximately seven league matches inclusive of washouts and cancellations.
Junior cricket season extends from October to November exclusive a three week exam interlude and also from February to March. Reward is negotiable.
The first team will be engaged in its final pre-season warm up match at 11am on Sunday 21 September at Harlequins.
The U13s and U11s will have coaching sessions on that day at 9am and seniors will practice at the nets at 1pm on Sunday.
