Callan’s loving the US lifestyle

BASEBALL player, Callan Pearce, has returned from the US after a six month stint with the Minnesota Twins.

Callan, Glenwood High School’s Head Prefect in 2013, signed a professional baseball contract with the Minnesota Twins in July 2013 during the midterm

break. Callan started his career with the franchise in March 2014. He will return to the US at the end of January next year.

Callan said the experience has been great and he has loved every moment.

“I did have my ups and downs, there's moments when I did well and others when I was knocked around, but these are life lessons and I have grown, I am a better player,” he said.

Callan said he has taken to the US lifestyle really well and has loved it. He said he enjoys the Florida beaches and goes there on his off days.

“I've enjoyed every moment and look forward to going back in mid January or at the end of the month, where I will prepare for Spring training in March. The season will start after that. My goal is to move up half way through the season or next season. The next level is the Elizabethton Twins, the advanced rookie ball team. The GC League Twins in the rookie team. I am feeling confident to go back, and the ball is in my court as to how far I will progress, it is such an exciting opportunity!” he said.

Callan plays and trains from Monday to Saturday, with training from 9am and a game at noon every day. He plays 60 games a season.

His contact also provides a study allowance to study at college in the off season, however he is not sure what he wants to study just yet, and doesn't want to rush into it.

“I really love what I am doing and can't wait to start training again, however I do miss my family back home, and they miss me! They known I am doing what I want, this is my dream, and they support me in every aspect. I feel my future is there, but this depends on how hard I work. It is really surreal though, I don't think there's anything I would rather do!” he said.
