Quins lose league match
Clare's were too strong for Harlequins Cricket Club's first team in a league match at the weekend.
ALL league cricket matches under the auspices of the Durban and District Cricket Union were cancelled at a relatively late juncture on Saturday morning as a result of the rain.
Play was, however, able to commence on Sunday with a match between Quins and Clares. Quins fielded first and things were quite positive for the team during the first nine overs, conceding just five runs per over. However, Quins bowlers were flayed by Clare's middle order especially by Grant Chislett, who scored a well-deserved 85 runs. Fast bowler Kevin Kettle was the most successful Quins bowler taking four wickets for 35 runs in five overs.
The target of 207 runs off 24 overs was a daunting task for Quins, especially with the first six batsmen failing dismally with the exception of opener Jaques Strydom's 15 runs. A gutsy 30 runs by George Smith and half that score by Kevin Kettle provided some hope of victory which was never to be as Quins succumbed, with just three deliveries remaining. Clares won the stream one challenge league encounter by 95 runs taking a bonus point as well as four more points out of this match.
This weekend sees seven of Quins' eight cricket teams with league matches.
