Movember surf event a success
There was pumping surf for the first event of the Off The Lip Movember Surf Jam.
SURFERS hit the beach for the Off The Lip Movember Surf Jam on 1 November.
More than 45 participants were greeted by clean four feet surf at Llandudno Lifesaving Club. Shaven upper lips, old-school surfboards and seventies dress up was the order of the day. The event was staged to create awareness and raise funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and other men’s health issues.
Quiksilver, the event organisers, is a major partner and supporter of the Movember foundation and decided to stage this event for the first time in the Cape.
Jacob Mellish from Somerset West, now living in Llandudno, put on a fine display of stylish and flowing surfing on an old twin fin surfboard to win the title.
Durban’s Brandon Jackson claimed fifth place in the competition and the novelty prize for the best 360.
Quiksilver’s sales and marketing manager, Dane Patterson, was very pleased with the outcome of the event.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better day, it was a good event, all for a good cause. We’re very happy to be able to support Movember and would like to thank the surfers and locals for coming out and being a part of this positive campaign,” he said.
The next Movember surf event will be held at Beach Bums in Durban on 22 November.
