GLENWOOD High School swimmer, Tiago Cordeiro has his dreams set on the 2020 Olympic Games.
Cordeiro, who has contributed hugely to the Glenwood’s U14A water polo team, is the leading goal scorer averaging six goals per match and has shown incredible potential and adapted extremely well to coaching under Mr Scott Mantle and Mr Steve La Marque, Glenwood's Director of Aquatics.
“The demands that he has faced in order to maintain and improve on his swimming and his water polo abilities has been enormous, but he has coped well under our Elite Sports Academy,” said La Marque.
Cordeiro was recently selected for the KZN U14A waterpolo team to participate in the SA Schools Tournament in Johannesburg in December.
He is currently ranked number one in KZN for many events in his age group and is ranked top three in SA.
According to Graham Hill, head coach of Swim SA, he has show great improvement over the past year which can be attributed to the Glenwood schooling programme which allows him to concentrate on his swimming.
“I believe he has the potential to qualify for the 2018 Youth Olympics,” said Hill.
He said Cordeiro was hardworking and committed and was always willing to learn, pushing himself hard to produce results.
“A plan is in place between Glenwood and myself to help Tiago achieve his dream of participating in the 2020 Olympic Games,” said Hill.
