Quins lose by five runs
Sunday's cricket matches were rained out, with Quins 6 the only team to play a match this weekend.
HARLEQUINS Cricket Club's 6th team ended up just five runs shy of victory in a well contested match against DHS/Rhythm 7 at Danville Park on Saturday.
Quins 6 allowed DHS/Rhythm to accumulate a moderate tally of 145 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 30 over allocation. However, there was some tidy bowling by medium pacers Jason Rouse who took three wickets for 26 runs in six overs and Andre Viljoen who captured a single wicket for a mere 16 runs in six overs. Tyler Badenhorst bowled five superb overs at fair pace for just 24 runs.
Quins batsmen took to the crease in their quest for ultimate victory but soon seemed to be in a quagmire of trouble in the eleventh over at 37 runs for four wickets. However, a resolute resurrection of innings through partnership by the run machine Ian Karg (37 runs) and Gavin Hazell (38 runs) saw Quins 6 through to a position where they needed an achievable quantity of 27 runs in 20 balls.
Some extent of panic resulted in crucial runs outs and ultimately the demise of significant lower middle order batsmen, leaving just too much for the tail to acquire, and Quins 6 lost by five runs.
All matches were rained out on Sunday.
Coaching sessions for juniors will be on Thursday at 5pm and practice for seniors will be on Friday at 4.30pm.
