Durban Rowing Club brings home the medals
The Durban Rowing Club is proud of their athletes who excelled in last weekend's Selbourne Sprint and Buffalo Regattas in East London.
DURBAN Rowing Club acheived exciting results in the Selbourne Sprint and Buffalo Regattas held in East London this past weekend.
Against very strong opposition, the juniors did well overall in the heats leading up to the final races. “Their results were most gratifying, considering juniors from the Durban Rowing Club had not participated in these prestigious regattas for some years,” Durban Rowing Club captain, Mark Burgess, said.
In extremely challenging weather conditions, Michelle Houlson won two silver medals in the 500m sprint and the 1 000m race in a singles event. However, team rowers in the Masters category shone brightly, bringing home a number of gold, silver and bronze medals by winning all the Masters events.
Burgess said the results proved the success of the club and are a great platform on which to build for the rest of the season. He is confident of good results from the upcoming events, including the SA Schools and Junior Championships, which are set for 6 to 8 March at Roodeplaat, followed by the SA National Champs towards the end of April.
