Entries open for para-triathlon
Para-triathletes can now enter the 2015 Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town.
ENTRIES are open for para-triathletes to take part in the 2015 Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront on 25 and 26 April.
This will be the fourth event in the 10 city tour, which finishes in Chicago later this year. It is only the second time that a leg of the ITU World Triathlon Series will be hosted on the African continent, with the finish at the Green Point Athletics Stadium.
Para-triathletes in the PT2 to PT5 categories can enter as indiviuals and will participate in the Sprint distance (as opposed to the Olympic), which includes a 500m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run.
The first para-triathlete to register is well-known South African Oswald Kydd, who hopes to participate in the Paralympics in Brazil, 2016.
“This event showcases that we as South Africans can host a world class event. I really hope we can get more disabled athletes involved and have a strong field in the future to allow us to be really competitive at international level. I’d like us as a team to firstly qualify for the World Championships and in so doing, also try to get to race in the Rio test event where we can earn points,” he said.
Age groupers will have the option to choose between an Olympic distance course or hone their speed skills on a sprint course. Individual sprint entries are open to para-triathletes (PT2 – PT5). Olympic and sprint distance team relays are also on the schedule. In addition to the competitions, athletes will be treated to a weekend full of festivities.
