Domingo raises awareness

Local MTB rider, Domingo Pestana Do Vale, will be raising awareness for the Learn Project during his Joberg2C race.

GLENWOOD MTB enthusiast, Domingo Pestana Do Vale, will be taking on two races over the next month.

Domingo will ride in the Berg 100 from Himeville to Clifton School in Nottingham Road on Saturday 28 March, in preparation for the Joberg2C on 24 April.

“The Berg 100 is a 102km off-road race, and I’m looking forward to it. There are a lot of hill climbs in the race, with one of 14km, which is quite nice,” he said.

The Joberg2C is a nine day race ending on Scottburgh beach on 2 May, and Domingo will be raising awareness for the Learn Project during the race.

Ros Toerien from the Learn Project said Domingo and his wife, Madelein, were ambassadors for the project.

“Awareness makes a difference to the project, which is a community-based organisation which brings books to disadvantaged schools, and which relies on volunteers and people giving of their time. I get calls for volunteers and donations through this sort of awareness and it really is a powerful way to spread the word. Some of the children we give books to have never seen a book before! I am so grateful to Domingo and Madelein for this,” said Ros.

Domingo said he was ready for the races, and was a lot fitter than he has been before.

“I have been doing around 150/160km on the weekends and doing time trial circuits on Thursdays. I am keeping up with the top time trial guys, who average around 50km/hour. I am looking forward to the Joberg2C. We will be driving up on the 23rd and Maddy will have my back up bike ready in case of emergencies. As always she is my biggest supporter,” he said.
