City to host 2017 AFCON qualifier
eThekwini Municipality is finalising the logistical preparations, safety and security, and traffic management plans to ensure Durban hosts yet another spectacular sporting event.

DURBAN has become well-known for hosting mega international events and is ready to host another successful showpiece when the national team, Bafana Bafana clash with the Gambian Scorpions for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Saturday 13 June, with kick-off at 3pm.
This match also provides an opportunity for the promotion of African unity and social cohesion which is the “glue” that brings society together, especially in the context of national cultural diversity.
eThekwini Municipality together with the Moses Mabhida Stadium management are finalising the logistical preparations, safety and security, as well as the traffic management plans to ensure that Durban hosts yet another spectacular sporting event.
eThekwini Mayor James Nxumalo said soccer was a unifying sport and has called on all soccer fans to come out in their numbers and enjoy the game.
“This is a crucial game, as a win will place us in good standing to be part of the 2017 AFCON tournament in Gabon. We are honoured to host this match at out world-class stadium. This game will not only bring thousands of soccer fans together but it will also boost tourism and the local economy,” said Nxumalo.
